The Royal Society of St. George, Hong Kong Branch assists distressed and deserving Englishmen and women. Such assistance has taken the form of one-off grants to assist in the cost of repatriation to England in the case of urgent need.
The Royal Society of St. George, Hong Kong Branch also assists deserving local charities. For example, the China Coast Community in Kowloon Tong. The Royal Society of St. George, Hong Kong Branch has also made a donation to the RAF Benevolence Fund in England.
The Branch has also responded to local and regional emergencies and has raised and provided monetary assistance. For example, the Hong Kong Rugby Bali Fund and the Business Community Relief Fund for Victims of SARS.
The Royal Society of St. George, Hong Kong Branch administers the Noël Croucher Shakespeare Fund which is designated to foster an understanding of, and education in, the English language and English literature amongst the people of Hong Kong.
Income from the Noël Croucher Shakespeare Fund is applied annually to provide bursaries to deserving students of English at the University of Hong Kong.
In addition, the Noël Croucher Shakespeare Fund provides sponsorship for various plays staged by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival. For example, “Much Ado about Nothing” and “Boxing Shakespeare” have been sponsored in part from this Fund.
